Dreaming in its Shadow

This work for moving piccolist and pre-recorded audio was commissed in 2016 by the incredible flutist Erika Boysen who asked for a work that incorporated movement and gesture. Since I’ve been working with dancers for many years, exploring my own movements through the practices of Noh Theater and other traditions, this piece was a joy to create in collaboration with Erika. The simple yet precise choreography is written into the score. If you listen closely you might hear hints of Schubert’s der Lindenbaum, a melody that was sung to Erika when she was a small child.
